Renato Leotta

Renato Leotta (b. 1982, Turin, Italy) is an artist who lives and works between Acireale and Turin, Italy. His works arise from a slow and prolonged observation of a place or a landscape – the forces of nature, the lunar cycles and the oceans – in an attempt to document the natural landscape with its own cultural and social stratifications. He uses various media ranging from traditional photographic language to video, from painting to the recovery of archival materials, and investigates the relationship between sea, sky and earth to create a possible dialogue between real and ideal worlds. Leotta’s selected solo exhibitions include Piccola Patria, Galleria Fonti, Naples, Italy (2015); Aventura, Madragoa, Lisbon, Portugal (2016); Eine Sandsammlung, Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen, St Gallen, Switzerland (2018); Magazzino Art Foundation, NYU, New York, USA (2019); SOLE, Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Turin, Italy (2020); Roma, MAXXI National Museum of the 21st Century Arts, Rome, Italy (2021); Linea, Punto, Sprovieri Gallery, London, UK (2022). Among his group exhibitions are TERRAE NUBILUS, NAK, Aachen, Germany (2016); XVI National Quadrennial of Art in Rome, Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome, Italy (2016); Pompei@Madre, Materia Archelogica, Madre, Naples, Italy (2017); INTUITION, Palazzo Fortuny, Venice, Italy (2017); Matriz do Tempo Real, MAC, São Paolo, Brazil (2018); Manifesta12, Palermo, Italy (2018); The Piedmont Pavilion, Combo, Venice, Italy (2019); Garden of Earthly Delights, Gropius Bau, Berlin, Germany (2019).
